If you’ve ever leaned over to enjoy the warmth wafting up from a cup of freshly poured tea, the concept of a facial steam might be pretty appealing to you.
Steaming your skin is one of the best things you can add to your beauty routine to keep your skin healthy and free of impurities.
Some of the top benefits of a facial steam are:
- Keeps pores open and natural oils flowing freely.
- Makes you look younger.
- Pulls out dirt and removes trapped makeup.
- Loosens blackheads and helps prevent pimples.
- Sheds dead skin which gives you a natural, youthful glow.
- Kills bacteria which can help keep viruses away.
- Relaxation. (And don’t you deserve it?)
According to Joshua Zeichner, the director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, “Facial steaming can help hydrate and soften the outer skin layer, enhancing penetration of active ingredients into the skin.”
Use this step-by-step guide to do your own spa facials at home.
1 – Remove Makeup
If you want a natural makeup remover, coconut oil is absolutely the best (and so nourishing for your lashes)!
2 – Cleanse
Next it’s time to thoroughly cleanse your face using your favorite all-natural facial cleanser.
3 – Exfoliate
Exfoliation helps remove dead skin, reduces large pores and prevents fine lines and wrinkles.
4 – Facial Steam
Now it’s time to steam using your favorite essential oils for skin health and relaxation.
Try one of the following blends:
- For normal or sensitive skin: rose, lavender, calendula, chamomile
- For dry skin: rose, fennel, lemon verbena, calendula
- For oily skin: lavender, peppermint, yarrow, calendula, lemon balm, rosemary
5 – Mask
The right face mask can help hydrate skin, remove excess oils and help improve the appearance of your pores. They’re also an excellent way to help pull out impurities.
